Private Offering (group or person) Point Reyes National Seashore, adjacent habitats and ranchlands around pristine Tomales Bay, have been justly described as one of the best bird watching areas in the country. Your stay in this special landscape on the Pacific Coast can now include a full or several day birding excursion led by one of the most experienced and enthusiastic birding guides in California. David's excursions on the famous northern California coast are an exceptional introduction to the wonderful world of birding. David has compiled the Point Reyes Peninsula Christmas Bird Count (CBC) for the last 18 years. He is an encyclopedia of information. Your outing will consist of explanations about the natural and human history of the area, wildflowers, trees, geology, whales, climate, butterflies and dragonflies to name a few. If you have an interest, David will incorporate that into your birding tour. Many people spend a day with David getting the lay of the land, and getting a crash course in the human and natural history. With David's advice you can plan the rest of your stay at your favorite spots or areas you did not have time for. Point Reyes National Seashore can be confusing and David can help you make sense of it all. Explorations in California (focus on birds or/and natural and human history) California is a land of extremes, which includes the North America's tallest mountain and deepest valley. The list of birds observed in the state is only exceeded by one other, Texas. David has many years of experience leading trips in the desert, mountains, wetlands and other varied habitats of this rich area. Private birding tours can be arranged in places such as the Salton Sea, Mojave Desert, Mono Lake, Yosemite, Klamath Basin, Morro Bay and Central Valley in addition to numerous San Francisco Bay Area locations. If you have target species that are of interest to you, please contact David to discuss your unique itinerary. Assistant Naturalist Susan Colletta
David's wife, work partner (and CBC co-compiler), Susan Adele Colletta often assists on outings. Susan worked for Lucasfilms Industrial Light & Magic and Mattel, Inc. as a Digital Matte Production Manager and a Visual Effects Producer. While an enjoyable and lucrative career, earning group project accolades and an honorary Emmy Award for the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles; Susan yearned to spend more time in nature. Susan exchanged her clipboard for binoculars and now co-leads on a regular basis. Susan, a fourth generation San Franciscan, will greet you in the language of the Coast Miwok and relate tales of their life. Susan is a fantastic scout with an eagle eye" and a developed sixth sense. She encourages people to open up all their senses to nature, not just their eyes. Her easy sense of humor, outward exuberance in nature and unique co-leading style complement Davids teachings wonderfully. Together, David and Susan are a unique team. Be prepared to have a fun and memorable day, whether David is guiding solo or as part of a team. **** Locations visited in the Point Reyes area will be determined by weather, seasonal distribution of bird species and participants' interests. Most birding trips will consist of a series of short walks with little difficulty. Many aspects of bird identification and behavior will be covered. Remember, you don't have to be a "birder" to enjoy an excursion to the Point Reyes area and beyond. There is so much more nature. Please do not wear any non-essential SCENTED products and smoking is prohibited. Private Guide Excursion Prices
